Problems with water heater.

My water heater has acted funny over the past few years. Sometimes it will ignite, others it won't. However, over the past few months, it will not even try to ignite. It will not even click now.

There is nothing blocking the flow of propane.

Could this be a circuit board problem? Igniter?

Would I be able to just replace the circuit board and electrod?

I don't really want to buy a completely new unit if uneccesary.

I have an 83 excella 32 footer with a rear bathroom

Does anyone know what type of water heater comes factory in the model?

Thanks.

Most likely it is an Atwood water heater. Before you condemn the circuit board first you must confirm that you have 12VDC coming from the switch to the board. Turn on the switch and then remove the wiring coupler from the circuit board. Check the pin for the brown wire for 12VDC+ with a muitimeter.

Ok, I found the label. It is an Atwood G6a7-e unit.

I could turn the switch to "on" and then flip my power on and off at the converter a few times, and this used to get it to ignite...but it will not do that now.

Is the brown wire, the one that goes to the switch? All I have is a test light, will that work?

I'm about to get working on it.

Ok, I checked the brown wire, and it had fire. So what now?

Atwood Water Heater Manual

Manual is here
http://www.atwoodmobile.com/manuals/...2011.19.07.pdf

If that's not the right one, there are links to others here listed under "Support Center":

Water Heaters - Atwood Mobile

Hope this helps,

Gary

Eastern South Dakota is very pretty with hills, rivers, and trees.

I hope you mean by fire that you have 12VDC+ at the pin connector which attaches to the circuit board.
Clean the contacts on the connector block and on the circuit board with an eraser from a pencil. Check the green ground wire from the circuit board and again clean the point where it mounts to the water heater.
If you do have 12VDC+ at the circuit board and a good ground then the next step would be to confrim that the circuit board is sending 12VDC+ to the gas valve. Check for this right at the gas valve on the red wire.
