Problem with dual-source water heater on 2012 International 28'

Lately when we set up the water heater kicks on, but goes off a little later (light comes on and no hot water). A complete electric re-boot always does the trick, but it's a pain. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong in my setup sequence?

The red light usually means an error with the propane circuit ... are you connected to shore power? You should be able to run on both propane and electric; hence, the two switches ... not sure why you would need to shut down power and bring it up again for the electric side ... could there just be a pause before you detect hot water? If your propane supply is good, then the red light will come on and go off after 1-2 seconds. When it stays on you do not have a lit burner in the water heater.

My guess is that the "re-boot" is simply giving the heater a second start cycle and that the second cycle works.
We have experienced problems with the propane side of the water heater when a spider built a teeny tiny nest inside the Venturi tube of the heater. I knew of the possibility of this problem in reading but I was unprepared for the actual small size of the restriction. When I actually removed and found the nest I did not believe I had found the problem. It has been fine since then though.

Just wondering how you re-cycle the heater? Are you just switching off and then back on? Are you using propane or electricity or are you turning on both?

Curious,
Bruce
