Please advise..Red light?

we have a 2005 28' safari.
there is a red 'light' in the bathroom located next to the on / off switch for the water heater.....when i switch the water heater switch on the red 'light' does not illuminate......is it supposed to when on ? i tried to gently pry the 'light away from the wall to check for a bulb but could tell it did not want to move..damage was possible.
please advise.....frustrated.....thanks.

The red light is a fault light. If it's not on, that's good. It should illuminate briefly when you first switch on the water heater, then go out.

Your water heater will try an ignite cycle three times - I think it is three - between light attempts, the red light will come on briefly. If after three cycles, the heater still will not stay lit, then the red light will come on steady and the system is "locked out".

To try again, you need to switch the heater off for a couple of minutes and then you can try again.

If it won't light after a few attempts like this, then there is a problem that must be resolved.

If the heater has not been used on gas for a while, it could take a few cycles to light due to air that needs to be purged out.
