pilot light too big

The pilot light on my Bowen heater is too big. Instead of a small blue flame, it's a bigger yellow one. Originally I was getting a very small blue flame and it wouldn't stay lit. Then we cleaned out the tube and got a spiderweb out and now it stays lit, but it's too big. The screw that turns the light down is worn out, so I can't reduce it. Is there a relatively easy fix for this?

thanks!

On my safari the actual adjustment screw is beneath a cap screw. It may be that your cap screw is stripped. The cap screw sets about flush to the body of the controller and the adjustment screw is recessed in a hole below it.

Don't know about the adjustment screw, but if the flame is yellow, I believe it's not getting enough air into the mixture.
