New Pump

I Need to install a new water pump. When I purchased this A/S the PO said that the pump had been broken, he took it out, and threw it out because he was selling it. In other words, I don't know what was in it. Anyone know what make and model to use?

If you are inquiring about the pump for you 1976 coach, it was in all probability a Peters and Russell pump. They are still available new, but rather expensive -- I think that they are well worth the money since the are rebuidable and can last three decades or more with good care and the ocassional rebuilding.

I had to have a new pump when I bought my Overlander in 1995 (the coach's previous owner had completely removed the original pump because "it wasn't working") -- didn't question going with a PAR and I am thrilled with its performance and durability. My Minuet has its original PAR and has been rebuilt once since I bought the coach in 2002.

I put a Shurflow in a SOB that I had before we got our Trade Wind. I put the same kind of pump in the AS 3 years ago and it works great.

I put in a Camping World Flowtech pump. It uses the same design as Shurflow but is cheaper, since they do not spend as much on advertising. It is smaller and quieter than the old PAR type pump. Frequently on sale for less than $60.

While you're at it, install an accumulator.

What is an accumulator and what does it do?

See Shurflo Accumulator Tank - Item - Camping World and Shurflo 2-Gallon Stainless Steel Tank - Item - Camping World. By compressing air in a bladder in the tank, pump cycles are reduced. Well systems use the same thing on a much larger scale.

Much good advice here, I would go with the sureflo and the accumulator you will be well pleased. Take time to sound isolate the pump. that is put some rubber under the pump to keep the sound from traveling throughout the trailer and make certain the tubing coming out of the pump is not against the structure of the trailer. good luck

The SHURflo Whisper King is quieter than the standard SHURflo and has a 5 yr warrenty instead of 2 yr. Maybe $25. more

Pretty much any water pump will work, some are better than others. You don't need a pump specific for Airstream . I have a Sure Flo and no complaints.

lewster will message with you if you open his profile and get in touch. He's not following & responding to threads right now. But take a look at http://www.airforums.com/forums/f443...tml#post430032. And scroll back to post #20. He seems to say current pumps don't require an accumulator. I've got a noisy PAR pump and am taking way to much time to follow Lew's advice.
