Is there flash heater that both propane and electric?

If so, which flash heater brand is better? If not, which is best? Gas or electric? This is about flash heaters only.

Flash heater as in tankless hot water heater? For RV use they are propane only. Takes too much power for electric.

I use a PrecisionTemp 500 series unit and really like it. It's not bad on propane consumption and fairly quiet in operation. Much better than the conventional Atwood 6 gallon that woke me up at night when it cycled--was in the bottom of the closet next to the bed. The tankless only runs when I need hot water.

Yes, I meant flash water heater.

The Gerard tankless water heater is a good one, Gerard has been in the business the longest and makes a great product.

I have always had conventional propane water heaters - and they've been OK. At six gallons, long leisurely showers weren't possible, but once I got the Oxygenics shower head I could linger a bit longer.

The one real advantage I could see with the "flash" type heater might still be negated by it's location. With a water saving shower head, if you're boondocking , it seems to take a while for the water to get warm enough to be bearable to get into the shower. (I don't DO cold showers!) It ticks me off to waste a gallon or two while the pipes clear and the temp warms up.

If you're renovating or redesigning the layout of a trailer - consider placement of the flash heater for having hot dish and shower water ASAP.

Slight correction, as I am a factory authorized repair facility for Girard............AWNINGS!!

Their thankless water heaters are relatively new to market and are offered thru a separate, new division of the company.

As for longevity in the market, the leaders are Atwood and Suburban, followed by Aqua-Hot, Precision Temp, Girard and Atwood tankless units.

I looked at the Girards when they first appeared, as they also wanted me to service them. After a careful examination of a unit they sent me, I declined.

Since Atwoods are a licensed clone of Precision Temp, I still feel they are the best option for tankless heaters.

An internet search will probably do it, but my intent of my post was to recommend the Precision Temp, as it is the original.

Note that the precision temp comes with a freeze protection kit installed and can be had with an UNPAINTED aluminum door that really looks nice on the side of an airstream. If that's what you desire be sure to verify that it got ordered that way. I had to talk directly to them to get it absolutely right...at least that was my experience about a year or so ago.

I did have to trim the lower rub rail ends on both sides of the old opening to get the door to fit cleanly, but that was minor compared to the work it took to get the unit installed and plumbing connected in my closet bottom area where our heater li bed...
