if my water heater...

my 71 safari bowen water heater is VERY hard to turn on and off-almost need a pair of pliers to do it!-does tis mean that the main control should be replaced?--or can it be lubed??-thanx for your help!--jim from mich

Mine was that way, very stiff. I used WD-40 and it loosened up and has been fine since with an occasional spray but yours my be beyond that and need replacing.
