Hot water heater question
I just removed the old leaking Bowen hot water heater in my 1971 Overlander. I was told that the Atwood 10 gallon hot water heater was a direct replacement. The Bowen was a 10 gallon.
The problem is that none of the dimensions are even close. The new Atwood is 25" X 19" X 18".
The old Bowen measures 20 & 1/2" X 16" X 15& 1/2".
This is measuring the unit and not the flanges.
Does anyone have any suggestions to cure this problem?
Thanks, Robert

Check the dimensions on the Atwood 6 gallon. That is pretty much standard issue these days.

The 6 gallon Atwood will produce almost as much hot water as a standard 10 gallon. It uses a mixer valve to produce reasonably hot water from the very hot water it actually produces.

This is true if you get the "XT" models from Atwood, but they still sell non-XT models that don't have that finicky mixing valve.

Yeah, that valve is yet another maintenance issue. We went with a PrecisionTemp 550 Tankless instead. DW loves the long hot showers.

Just a general comment on "hot water heaters" - they're not.
They are water heaters. But people sometimes refer to them as "hot water heaters" which is actually redundant. I have caught myself saying this before too.
Not being snarky or condescending here, just letting anyone who wants to know what the device is actually called.

It could still be a Hot Water Heater as they do regulate on and off to keep the water in the heater, hot...lol

Matters not. But technically correct.
I used to refer to mine as the G-D Atwood until I got rid of it.
Now it's the much loved 'tankless' around our house.
