Question hot water heater

Need some help on our hot water heater....there is a drain plug that has an extension of about 3 - 4 inches that goes into the unit. When my husband removed it to drain the tank this extension was badly corroded and we can't tell what the original material was. Almost looks like a screen of some sort ???? The trailer did not come with the manual for the heater, but am almost certain it's from Atwood.

Mary,
I believe Paul is right. If memory serves me right, the anode rods are around 6" long when new and are available for Suburban as well as Atwood water heaters. They are available at Camping World www.campingworld.com
