Help newbie - hot water stopped working...tried both electric and LP

Hi all,

I have been rv-ing in my new 2014 airstream flying cloud 19 for 3 weeks in Wyoming, and everything working great. I went away for a few days and left my airstream electric on but switched off the electric water heater and the water pressure (city water). I just got back to my airstream and cannot get hot water to work, I turned the city water pressure back on and then switched on the electric water heater switch. When I did this, the red light blinked in the switch, which I thought meant all was working ok, but I get no hot water. After Several attempts, I turned off get electric water heater and tried the LP switch, still no hot water.

Please help a newbie....any ideas appreciated!

Jeff

When you turn on the water heater, the red light should come on for a second or two and then go off. On our LP only model, if the red light stays on, the burner did not light. When you turn yours on with LP, what does the red light do?

Have you looked at the manual for the water heater? It will probably tell you what the blinking red light means. I'm going to hazard a guess that it means the 110 VAC heater element doesn't have power. Check the 110 VAC circuit breaker for the water heater element.

Have you ever used the water heater on Propane before? If not, it may take a couple of on and off cycles in LP mode to purge all the air out of the propane line.

My 2013 FC20 has 2 switches... 1 electric and 1 for LP. Make sure your gas valve is open if using gas. You can switch electric or gas or both on at same time. If the light flickers on it's no problem. I almost never notice it. My switches are side-by-side and down is on. If the red light stays on you need to turn both switches off for about a minute to reset and then turn a switch back on. The Atwood hot water heaters are pretty much the industry standard so any RV dealer should be able to help you out if the hot water heater doesn't start up. What always caused me the most difficulty is knowing which switch position is on vs off. I would have it on and my wife would accidentally turn one off because it's located next to our bathroom sink. Good luck!

Funny...on mine the on is when the upper portion of the switch is pushed in....and the red light is telling you that there is a problem. You should not be seeing the red light at all....

If you are using gas you will hear the ignition when you flip the switch....

Computer/control board issue.

I would want to try to cycle the 12v power to the heater to try and reset/reboot it.

I don't know how to do this on your trailer, someone who does should chime in.
