Exclamation Atwood On-demand Water Heater Recall: Scald Hazard

http://www.atwoodmobile.com/images/O...l-11-23-15.pdf

This Potential Safety Related Defect affects the products manufactured between January 2, 2012 and August 13, 2015 with serial numbers 90197XXXXXXXX, 90205XXXXXXXX and 90347XXXXXXXX

I emailed them over the weekend and they advised an install kit can be ordered by service center and installed.

You can call this number: 877-546-9074
Or visit their service center locater online and contact whichever service center you want the work done at http://www.atwoodmobile.com/dealerlocator.asp

If you have had work done due to this issue, you will be reimbursed.

Thanks for the heads up; mine is one of the ones listed and I added received anything from the supplier directly.

You registered and you didn't get a recall notice? This recall came out in November.

I just received another email from Atwood after asking if I could mail the unit to them in exchange for a repaired one.

"Since you have not installed this unit yet, you can take that to a service center to have them install. I cannot send a recall part to a retail customer these all need to be installed by a service center. It does not have to be an Atwood service center."

This is contrary to their statement posted on the web, but satisfactory to me. I don't want to drive over an hour to their nearest service center. I've emailed back to get confirmation the warranty won't be effected by a non Atwood service tech doing this work. If I have a non Atwood service tech do the work, do they reimburse them or do I pay for service? I'll post when I know.

Yes that's correct I had sent in the registration but have not received to recall.

Mine is already installed and was in use, as part of a custom rebuild of a 20ft Argosy. That work was carried out by AS New England who are not on the list of Atwood installers, although are Atwood suppliers. As such ASNE are now in discussion with Atwood to see if Atwood will cover the cost of the warranty repairs. Fortunately Bella (our MH) is in ASNE for final bodywork and paint so it won't require us to book her in for an extra shop visit, but I won't be happy if I am expected to pay ASNE time to do the repair.

She told me via email that anyone can do repair. They can bill Atwood for 1/2 hour labor. You can also have the work done and be reimbursed.

Well 30mins maybe the expected time to replace parts if the unit is sitting on a bench. I doubt it is, if the heater is installed, the the tech has to first get access!
