adjusting flame on Water Heater

I am burning more yellow than I think is appropriate in my original Atwood (Bowen) Water Heater. Leaving considerable amount of soot. How do I adjust the flame? Any hints on how to get the sweet spot. I live at 5000ft and camp at over 8000ft pretty regularly. My apologiex if this has been addressed I am not finding it.

Before attempting to adjust the flame remove the burner tube and make sure there is not a spider nest in it. There is little or no reason for the factory setting to have changed but a spider can cause flame problems.
