'72 AS hot water heater function question
Forgive me if this has been asked a hundred times. I looked but did not see the info I needed.
All of my gas appliance work well and there's propane in the tanks. However, don't seem to be able to get the hot water heater to light. Based on the instructions, I expect that if I hold the read "clear" knob down long enough (with the control know set to pilot and the temp on low) I ought to smell gas and I don't. I do have a shut off valve under the trailer that feeds the furnace and it is on and seems to be in working order.
So... is that magic box something that may be not functioning correctly?
Thanks guys, never been "lucky" enough to have a trailer with a hot water tank so its new to me!

I had a shutoff valve inside in an awkward location. I looked several times and didn't recognize what it was. You might have one there as well.

Very little gas comes out the pilot tube, but you should have some.
My 75 TW has a shutoff valve directly under the water heater running along the belly pan.
If that is good, you might have a blockage in the pilot tube caused by incests. You could disconnect the tube and try blowing it out.

Thanks folks, that was the encouragement I needed. Once I verified that there was only one shut off valve inline I took apart the pilot and burner and cleaned up the gunk, rust, and spiders. Ta-Da - it works!
I didn't dig into the incest though... ;-)

I cannot imaging what appliance you had trouble with?????
Airstream has never used a "hot water heater".
But................they have used "cold water heaters" for many years.
Bottom line is more important, that you got the "thingy" working ok.

I thought maybe there was an inappropriate relationship between the heater and the fridge... I guess that would explain the cold water heater!

Airstream also uses "cold air" heaters.

"Hot air" coolers are a popular option as well.

Andy on a similar note I once had a rental customer ask where he fills up the electricity. I wasn`t sure what he meant and asked him to clarify his request. He then asked for the location of the tank for the electricity so he could fill it to use the microwave and air conditioning while on the road in the rental motorhome. You just never know what to say in response to that question.

I asked the flight ticket agent for a round trip ticket and he asked, "Where to?". I said, "Round trip . . . right here".
