What size Sewer hose connection?

Hi there,

I have recently bought a 1986 29' Sovereign that did not come with a sewer hose. My brother-in-law and father (neither of which own Airstreams) tried their sewer hose on my trailer and they did not fit. I need to buy a sewer hose but what should I ask for? (The diameter of the waste tube seems to be about 3 3/4 - 4 inches (I didn't really get too close). Any info would be appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Rod

Rod,

Most likely you need a Thetford connector, common for Airstream, rather than the Valterra, common on most other RVs, which your brother in law and father tried. The hose itself is one size regardless of the connector.

You need a Thetford to Valterra adapter made by Valterra. The Thetford is only slightly larger. You could also go with all Thetford fittings which I have found at Camping World or some RV centers. This will give you an idea what it looks like as you check the last item at the bottom of the page:
VALVE CAPS AND ADAPTERS

My 1987 Sovereign and my 1996 Sovereign have different size connectors, the 1996 has what is called a 3" coupler and i am not sure what the 87 size is. When i measured them they were 3 1/2 and 3 3/4 across the opening, i do know that Camper World does not carry the larger size

I guess that is the difference between Camping Worlds. The one in Nashville carried at least 4 different styles of white Thetford fittings for the Airstream. One time I went in and there were none.

I measured from the outside diameter of the drain pipe and it was 3 3/4 inches wide. Will the Valterra to Thetford adapter fit this pipe?

Thanks,

Rod

This worked for me :)

I experienced the same problem with my 1973 Ambassador. The dump pipe is as you discribed. 3 3/4" I ordered this adaptor on eBay and it allowed us to use a standard 3" hose. You will also need hose clamps. Thetford straight termination valve 02593.
