Waste water tank repair

Tore off the waste and grey water drain pipes from our 2004 International and believe that the tank was cracked. Airstream dealer quoted $1200 just for the tank, then the repair labor and other plumbing parts extra. Yikes. First, can you buy airstream waste water tanks direct, and second, has anyone done this that can offer some words of advice or warnings? Is this do-it-yourself project worth the savings?

Do you have full coverage insurance? If so, this would be a perfect time to pull out that policy and save yourself some knuckle-scraping.

If not, then I would say that the exact tank is almost certainly order-able from your Airstream dealer, and if you can do home plumbing PVC repair, then this is no more complicated. Vintage owners install from scratch all kinds of tanks all the time, in this case it should be a simple matter of replacing damaged parts. If you want to save money, you can probably get similarly sized tanks from non-Airstream RV parts suppliers such as PPL RV.

The only way you can buy that tank direct from Airstream, is to be at their facility. That is an agreement, long standing, that they have with their dealers. Non-compete are the words.

Airstream has never had a water, or holding tank of any kind or description that costs even half the amount you quoted.

You will have to purchase that tank from a dealer, that can have it shipped to you from Ohio, or from a dealer who can order that tank along with their large stock order, that minimizes the freight costs.

I doubt that your insurance will cover that tank, since long term damages are always specifically excluded. Sudden, accidental and direct damages, are always covered, such as from an accident. Damages that take time to happen, again, are always excluded.
