Toilet to nowhere...Say what?

I just purchased a '52 Cruisette that has a toilet hidden under the dinette bench but it goes to nowhere. Just outside! No space for a black tank where the toilet is located and since it's likely been there for more than 60 years, I am hoping someone has seen this "setup" before and can advise on what would have gone under the trailer to make this toilet operable? Eww, I know but the question has to be asked!

There was a thread on this a while back. Apparently early travel trailer campers would dig a pit in the ground and pull the trailer over it. Cover up upon pulling away.

Where did the poop go in 1952.

Before holding tanks were installed, the toilet had to be hooked up to a sewer system with a hose or dumped into a "rabbit hole". Now you can use a blue boy container or figure out how and where to install a holding tank.

Thanks Bill! My preference would be holding tanks but as you can imagine in this tiny Cruisette space is quite limited. Fingers crossed something can be worked out.

kellykellyi, In your trailer the correct term for how to use the open drop toilet was to dig a "Gopher Hole" and pull the trailer over the hole. The hole was then filled when the trailer was moved. This as you have observed was neither sanitary or these days legal! If you do not have room to install a Black Tank beneath the floor under the location of the current toilet then your current toilet must be replaced with one that does not require a black tank to be used. There are many different types that will fill this need for you. There are Marine toilets, Composting toilets, and Cassette toilets that can be used and emptied in a sanitary dump after usage. In this case you would be able to repair the sub-floor to close up the "open hole". Then too you could use any of these toilets in a different location in the trailer if you chose to! Google the different types of toilets above to see pictures and specs on these toilets. Hope this helps Ed

3" frame and single panel end caps? Nobody does anything about the single panel end caps, do they? And do all Cruisettes have them? Because this ones interior walls sure don't seem any different than any of my other Airstreams.

Watch out Melody Ranch! Make this too scary and you will see me tow it up to your place for a full frame off renovation.
