Toilet base seal...

Hi, all!

I pulled up the stool to put replace flooring in our 94 Excella. Replaced the shag with vinyl. I am having trouble getting a good seal between the stool and the flange. Getting odor and some leakage. Replaced the first seal, which was torn, but problem is still there. Are there any tricks to this?

I thought about the thickness of the flooring changing the loading on the joint, but what I put down was 1/4 in Luanda underlay with abt 1/8 in foam backed vinyl. Any thoughts out there?

If you have a Thetford toilet here is a link to a seal. Thetford 33239 Closet Flange Seal Rubber

If the toilet is now higher due to the floor replacement, you might have to double the seal.
Avoid wax seals which could melt or crack. Lots more flexing of the floor than a home toilet, many of those using wax seals.

If you just need a fraction of an inch more height to the flange, you can remove the flange screws and unscrew the whole flange a little, and it will raise up. Just do not go to far. You may or may not want to place a shim under the flange.

Just noticed the age of your rig, it might be a challenge to get the flange threads to unscrew. A seal change might be the easiest solution.
