Thetford vs Valterra

I seem to have a hybrid system. In the photo, you can see where the monstrosity was created to match plumbing of different diameters.

Can I get a piece of plastic plumbing with the sewer connector nobs (do these have a proper name) to replace the monstrosity?

Where is the best source?

What is the difference between the Thetford and Valterra fittings?

tia,

Thetford is slightly larger than Valterra fittings. There are adaptors available. Most "blue tanks" have the Valterra fittings, as do most SOB's.

Parts? HERE is a good place to start.

New Plumbing - looking for opinions

Goin to revive an old thread here. I pretty much have a blank slate to start with on the plumbing. Would it be wiser to use the Valterra fittings versus the Thetford ? I was told by a repair shop here in town that Valterra is the most popular and the easiest to get should something break. Let me know what you all think !

The original Thetford fittings coming out of the black tank on older trailers with no grey tank are fragile and obsolete according to my local dealer.
If you are building a system DEFINITELY use Valterra as they are universally available ( and cheaper).

The Thetford parts are definitely higher quality, but availability (and lower cost) definitely swing me toward Valterra.

Use rubber couplings and radiator clamps at critical joints so you can make repairs in any Home Depot parking lot.

I'll add hearsay in that I was told the reason Valterra dump valves are easy to replace is because they have to be replaced fairly oftern. No personal experience though.

Parts availabilty, as markdoane pointed out, is a definite plus.

Good responses

Well it seems like Valterra is leading the pack. I had heard that Thetford is becoming obsolete by my RV dealer here too. The reason I ask about the fittings is I am getting a new holding tank made here in town. They will duplicate what I have for a fair price. I am actually gong to make it a little bit bigger. They have to have the fittings when they make the tank so they can match the materials. I can also get a no leak guarantee if they put the fittings on. A plus here is that after they make my tank, they will have the measurements and could easily make more.

Are the Valterra fittings made from abs ?? or some other kind of plastic.

I have a '71 Avion with Thetford fittings and wanted to use Valterra but could not find an Thetford to Valtera adapter. I called Valterra and they sent me an adapter free of charge.

All Valterra

I just got back from the RV store. I purchased all Valterra fittings. They are inexpensive and they confirmed what people have said on here. They are widely available. The store had everything I needed right up to the Blue Boy. yay ! Sooo...my whole AS is Valterra now.
