Thetford Valve gasket

A year ago I replaced both valves (gray and black) on our 1999 Excella.
The gray tank is fine, but I've struggled with the black tank valve leaking (wouldn't ya know!)

Today I dropped the belly pan again and found it was leaking between the white valve and the black fitting that attaches to the tank. I have a new black gasket for that fitting, but find myself wondering which way it goes on.

One side of the gasket if flat, the other is bevels inward.

If there's anybody here familiar with these valves, do you know if the flat side goes against the white valve, of does the bevel side go against the white valve. It looks like it could go either way, but I know that it was the source of the leak... so I'm no longer confident I've done it right.

And, the Thetford website is USELESS - doesn't even show this valve so I can't get a sense of which way it should go

Thanks for your help.

Is there any way you could post a picture? Your hardware descriptions are a bit confusing.

Thanks,
Tom

Valve pictures

This (busted) valve is set so that the bottom of each picture is the fitting that would have gone to the waste-line. The top (black gasket) goes into the black-plastic tank fitting that attaches to the tank (gray or black water)

The two pictures show the gasket bevel up and bevel down. Its not as obvious as it seems because the tank fitting that fits onto it is also flat with a ridge around it. So, which direction should the gasket be set?

I've got it set in the first one - bevel up, flat side on the valve. You can see a closeup by clicking on the picture

Hope I'm right because I'm really getting tired of dropping the belly pan and opening up the black tank!

(for the record, this is Thetford model 08709)
