Sewer swivel fitting too big?

I recently purchased the Camco 39761 RhinoFLEX 15' RV Sewer Hose Kit with Swivel Fittings and found that the Bayonet-style Swivel Fitting is too small to fit on my 1979 Airstream Excella 500 sewer outlet. It is just barely too small, maybe 1/2'' to 1'' in diameter larger and it would fit.

As far as I can tell, this outlet size is supposed to be universal and standard, yet the outlet on my Excella seems too big to fit the standard attachment size. This is the second attachment I've tried that's too small to fit the outlet.

When you buy the adaptor buy at least 2. They break easily.

I also heard that they are stopping making those adapters - not sure if that is true but I recently bought a couple of spares on Amazon just in case

I wonder if it would be an easy job just to cut off the Thetford connector on the trailer and glue on a Valterra? Anyone know if the pipe sizes are the same? Might be a good thing to do as Thetford stuff seems a lot harder to find whereas even Walmart carries Valterra.

Wonder why AS continues to use Thetford? Maybe they don't on new trailers - Valterra seems to be pretty much the industry standard it seems so sticking with Thetford isn't very helpful to owners unless there is some real advantage that I am not aware of.

I recently bought a third slide valve to go on the outlet of the drain ahead of the cap. Of course I also had to buy a Thetford - Valterra adapter to use it, adding to the cost and leak potential and making it stick out more than I would have liked!

They do break easily and at the most inopportune time. I buy them online 4 at a time and always call the seller to combine shipping. They usually ship all for the price of one.

I put mine on with a little silicon caulk to keep it from coming loose when I take the hose off. Have not had one break yet, Guess I better order another one.

Happy you found them. Hope you ordered several. The are flimsy and break easily.

I asked that before and didn't get a reply so I hope you will ! Sounds to me a better idea than messing with adapters. Wonder if people have done that, I would think the pipe sizes are the same but don't know for sure.

You would have to measure the diameter of the pipe to be sure. I think it will fit the standard 3" ABS or PVC pipe.
RV manufacturers don't use anything special. Whatever is the cheapest.

If you could find or make a pvc sleeve that both the (cut off) original pipe and the new fitting would slide into you would have a much stronger glue joint. You could possibly even turn the insides on a lathe to fit each piece. I wonder if that has ever been done.
