Rubber grommet inlets for black tank?

I received my replacement black tank from Inca Plastics today. Since I was not exactly sure of the positioning of the inlets I did not have them install the welded in fittings. Instead they furnished me with rubber grommet inlet adapters that just pop into a drilled hole. They said to seal them with a butyl caulk.

There will be one 3" inlet for the toilet and one 1-1/2" inlet for the vent. Is there anything wrong with using these or should I find someone to plastic weld in the inlet fittings?

I'm using those too.

As long as they are in the top of the tank they should be just fine. the only time you might have a problem is if you overflow the tank and leave it in overflow for a long time... I don't plan on doing that.

When the trailer bounces around, in time, you will find out that the grommets leak.

Of course you will only find that out on a trip, where you can't do anything about the leaks, until you get back home.

We refuse to use them.

For the same reason... the spin welded/cast-in fittings can crack. Six of one/half a dozen of another... I prefer the flexibility of the rubber grommets for vents and inlets.
