Removing Black Tank Flange

Before I totally destroy my black tank any ideas on how to remove this flange?
It is quite rusted metal and would like to replace with ABS.

and get you a piece of angle iron, take a mini grinder and grind two notches out to fit the flange (then paint "airstream" on it ;-) and back it out using your new black tank flange wrench ;-)

oh, and you'll have to remove the toilet flange first, the part with the bolt in it...

Had to do this repair last year, actually my Father-in law did it!

Basically, there was absolutely no way that thing was going to unthread. We actually started to rip the plastic trying.

We end up taking a hack saw blade to two areas of the threads. CAREFULLY cut until the fitting is able to be collapsed into itself.

Steve.....get a piece of hard wood a 1 x 2 or 2x 2. Have it about 12 to 18 inches long (for leverage) drill a 1/4 hole thru it about 2 inches from one end. put a 1/4 in. bolt thru the hole so that it extends about an inch or more thru. Then place the board across the flange with the bolt in to one of the flange slots. drill another hole that will allow you to place another 1/4 in. bolt thru and into the other side flange slot. You have just made a poor mans spanner. Penetrating oil overnight and it should screw right out.

I cut partially through the flange with a Sawsall, in three places, then removed it with a cold chisel and a hammer. Cleaned out the threads and replaced it with a plastic one from VTS

I will try the spanner first,then move to everyone's personal experiences if I can't budge it.65 is stripped to the aluminum.Still need to remove the furnace and HW tank.Sorry you missed the Texas Vintage Rally.Had Fun. Steve

Yep, It screws out and I would be very surprised if that one does. Cut it like Tim and dan say. You can try to unscrew it first with the 2x4 idea it's a good one. But if you try to hard you toast the plastic tank.

You may need a new one anyway. i would be surprised if that one is in good shape. Andy at inland RV has nice fiberglass replacements. Not cheap but I'm happy with mine.
