Please Help me ID this Plastic Gasket

My '75 Safari's black tank valve was leaky so I took it apart. Lo and behold I find this!

Just exactly what is it?

I'd like to know if I need a new valve. Could it have come off the toilet slider valve (also Thetford)?

BTW, both the toilet and the valve seem to work fine now that this isn't wedged in there anymore! But I kinda tore up a gasket getting it out, so at the very least I'll replace that.

Thanks!

That's my vote! You will find all kinds of cutouts in the innards of an AS from the factory and previous repairs. Out of sight out of mind. That that it would take that much extra effort to throw it in the trash

I like the cutout idea! But probably not. This is very thin. Much thinner than the tank thickness. Also the tank has a slight blue-green hue. But it's a good thought!

Greetings Dallas!

In the photo, it almost looks like fiberglass cloth. If your coach has had a new tank installed in the past, it may be part of the kit that was used to fiberglass the toilet flange into the tank. I know that was one of the processes the tech described to me when I picked up my Overlander after having a new blackwater tank installed on it last month. The new tank from Airstream was produced without the cutout for the toilet so that the tank could be used for several models of Airstreams which meant that the opening for the toilet had to be cut in the field.

Another thought -- could it possibly be some type of screening that may have been over the bathroom vent fan? This is a long-shot but the shape would be approximate if your Airstream as the little circular roof-mounted bathroom vent fan like my Minuet.

Kevin

Boy, if that's a 1/4 inch hole in the middle, I'd have to also vote for a holesaw 'cutout' of some kind - who knows what got tossed into the tank over the years...

maybe there was some kind of material that was part of the floor covering or vinyl flooring that found it's way into the tank when cutting the hole for the toilet...
