Permanently hooking up to septic system?

I am going to be remodeling my friend's 31' Sovereign's rear bathroom. I am not familiar with remodeling Airstreams, I am just an amatuer handyman helping a friend. This AS is no longer going to be a road traveler ever again...strictly a stay-at-home cabin in the woods. Jo Anne wants a conventional household flush toilet, and this is getting hooked up to a sceptic system. Will I need to take out the old toilet's waste holding tank? I imagine if I just leave the tank there with the gates open there will be "poop pile-up" in the holding tank. Anybody have a few helpful opinions? I don't know anything about how RV toilet systems operate or how they are normally hooked up to sceptic facilities.

Well... The toilet dumps straight down into the holding tank. To do what you plan, I do believe the black tank will need to be removed, then just plumb as you would normaly I guess.

The problem you mention is a common one with a lot of SOB trailer that have the bathroom on the curb side of the trailer, never enough water to move the masses. If your Airstream has the toilet on the street side, close to the dump valve and you are using a full tank of water per flush you should not have a problem. Depends on how much time and effert you want to put in.

The best thing to do is to remove the old black water tank and plumb it straight out. The tank will act as a trap and you'll end up with a small brown mountain in there.

Now that I think about it you may have to remove the tank, not because of your stated concern, but because a standard toilet will have it's termination about 8 inches further back than a trailer toilet. This may change the location of the toilet and require a new location for the closet flange.
