? New Waste Valve?

I have a 1970 Safari which has a Thetford waste valve attached to the black tank. I don't know that the tank is original. In our Safari the wash water drains into the waste drain assembly after the Thetford valve...therefore it doesn't go into the black tank. The Thetford valve is leaking and has cracks in the two lower bolt hole ears which bolt it to the flange insert so I am considering just installing a new valve. I have been reading that the new Valtera valves are now what is being used. Should I replace my valve with a Valtera? Is there a difference in quality, parts replacement or longevity? Is there a valve that will allow me to have the wash water enter the tank without changing the entire configuration of plumbing? I would rather have the wash water go into the tank as we are hoping to get a waterless toilet so the black tank will not be used for that. All ideas are appreciated. Although if it isn't possible to easily transform things to do that then I may just get a rebuild kit for the Thetford and use a bucket to catch the wash water when we're boondocking. Thanks Tom

there is a difference in the pipe diameter between the Thetford and Valterra piping.there may be a way around that.Looks like the simple solution is just replace the Thetford valve with the same, they are readily available and no modification needed.

Waste lines are 3" whether Thetford or Valterra. Valterra valves are way less expensive and more common. Valterra is what is being used on the new airstreams and most SOB's. I just changed mine out on my '75 Argosy and went with the Valterra.

My tank has a 3.25" outlet and the Thetford flange piece is held into that with a hose clamp. Is there a reducer/adapter that will allow the 3" Valtera to work? Tom

Best thing to do is measure the pipe size inside and outside and then take it to the supplier, or take the old valve with you and match it. Pipe sizes are "nominal" and change according to the application.
