Interior Odor

My 75 Argosy has a bad oder that smells like sewer gas or propane coming from the kitchen counter area. Anyone have any experience with this problem? Thanks.

Try the search engine for things like "odor" and "black tank". You'll find several results which will help you get started in the right direction.

Also, check for propane leaks around your stove and oven.

We had this problem. Check your oven pilot switch on the oven control knob. Make sure it is turned to pilot off it should be the first setting on the knob one click before the actual off position. Another thing we cam across is that the pea (??) trap had dried up and was stinking or the air from the tank was coming in when we are hooked to sewer??

Having an LP detector is a good idea if you don't already. We added one to the kitchen area, since all the propane appliances are right there.

I agree, could be the trap as well, ours smells sewer-funky sometimes when it dries out.

LP detectors are to be installed at floor level because propane is heavier than air. Is the smell worse if the trailer is closed up? On entry can you get down on the floor and smell it more?

Or, if you haven't already done this, turn the gas off at the tank, and see if the smell dissipates inside.

Do you have refrigerator running on propane? Could be the fumes from this if exhaust chimney is not sealed off.

If not propane gas, check the sink drains for any accumulation of stuff. I add a small amount of holding tank deodorant to the sinks after every trip. That appears to take care of minor smells on the next trip out. http://www.airforums.com/forum...es/flowers.gif

Dave, you remind me. It's amazing how much pressurized liquefied gas remains in the line after you turn off at the tank. Run the stovetop until it goes out.

After the gas is all off, sniff inside lower cabinets, bins below the beds or gaucho, etc. A nasty musty smell might indicate a leak and floor problem. It's amazing how much better my Argosy smelled after replacing bad floor areas.

also

make sure your batteries are not overcharging. if they boil dry they can emit a rotton egg smell.
