How difficult would it be to add...

a grey tank to a "pre-standard-grey-tank" A/S? I've seen some post that the grey tank was an option on some '73 models, and then standard from '74 on. I wonder if there is any empty space down there on my '73 to put a tank, without moving a whole bunch of stuff around.

anyone? Andy?

Search for Retro grey tank

There has been quite a bit of discussion on this subject and I believe if you do a search for grey tank you will find plenty of info.

thanks. I remember the discussion. I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of "what is under the floor in a 73 safari?". I've seen references and links posted about this company that makes tanks for RVs...all different shapes and sizes. Just wondering if one of those could be easily mounted between the frame rails on my unit.

One sure-fire way to find out is to drop the belly pan and look.
I'm wondering if anyone else has already done that.

(I really need to break down and buy a service manual. LOL!)

holding tank location

I believe that the water holding tank is located near the axle(s).

you would probably have to mount a grey water tank rear of the axle but then you would have to concern yourself with things like:

Rear end sag
Weight distribution for towing (fishtailin)
how will you tie the drain lines together? (black and grey)

Just a couple of thoughts,

the fresh water tank is forward of the axles. there isn't a whole lot of room rear of the axles...not much overhang back there at all, (I don't think rear-end sag would be much of an issue because of that...plus, I wouldn't drive around with it full. at least not very far). But the black tank is pretty small...only 13 gallons.

How to tie the pipes in? well, they all terminate at a 1 1/2 inch line below the black tank; they can't pass very far away from where I would guess a grey tank should go. I'm thinking that if I were to put a valve on that pipe, just before it enters the "exhaust" pipe from the black tank, then tap into that line further up and route it to a tank......I'd have to see what's in there.
