Help! New tank for '65 safari?

Hi! I've owned a 65 safari for 4 days and I'm stuck! She is in good shape but I need to put a black tank on. The PO removed the old one, so I don't have one to have a duplicate built. I've tried searching around the forums, but can't find what I need. I'm guessing that I will have to have a custom tank built, but I don't know the size & capacity of the old one. Can anyone help? If I could figure out what I need, any suggestions on who to work with?
Other than getting this tank and repairing the propane line to the stove, we should be good for now.

Oh cool! Thanks so much! I'll call this afternoon. Luckily I can pass on the axle since the PO had that replaced.
He replaced the tank too, but it was just a stock tank and drug the ground with just a small dip. I wish I'd found this girl a year earlier, before he did. That cutout for the microwave in the otherwise perfect interior wood hurts too.

Alright, I got the tank, dump valve and connector ordered. Progress!
Now another question...I don't have the pan for the tank either. I went through another thread last night where they had gotten a new pan for their existing tank. I'm trying to find the thread to ask there also. Do I need a pan? Would the original have had the belly pan covering all of that back area or would the tank have extended down some in it's own pan? Make sense?

I think you're talking about my recent thread "Maxwell gets some TLC". Our black tank is original and we just recently replaced the original rotted out pan, changed out the valve & fixed a couple of pinholes in the original fiberglass tank. This was all done from underneath the trailer by dropping the back portion of the belly pan. At least on our '64 GT, there is the tank pan which is bolted to the frame that helps support the tank; then the belly pan covered that up so the bottom was all concealed within the frame for a smooth bottom. The tank pan does not stick down below the belly pan - it is all encased between the frame and aluminum sheet.

I believe by ordering the tank you did, you will be able to re-do yours as it was originally just fine.

Yes, that's the thread I was looking for. I finally found it later. Thank you for all the information; it has been so helpful! Hopefully this won't be too bad. We're going to have to replace the subfloor there as well, but that doesn't look too hard. Now I've got to find a shop to make me a pan!

Any good sheet metal shop can make the pan. I had my local HVAC guy, who has a shop, do it for me. All I had them do was cut and bend the parts of the box to my measurements. They used some left over pieces and didn't even charge me since with my drawings it did not take them but a couple of minutes to bend up the parts. Then I took the parts home and riveted them together and cut the hole for the dump valve. That took time but saved me a lot of money.
