Fresh water tank size 71 Overlander

Greetings,
I have a 1971 Overlander and trying to figure out how many gallons the fresh tank holds. The manual says 50 but I ran out of water around 25 gallons last time I used it. Thought it might be possible that the pump inlet/suction point is not at the bottom of the tank but all apears okay. Any experience with this?

Thanks for your time, Nick

The manual is correct. The original tank holds 50 gallons.

The tank could have caved in, is one possibilty.

Another, is that the tank may have been changed by a previous owner, to something smaller than the original.

We have the correct replacement tank made since it is no longer available from Airstream.

1971 Overlander

Is the only way to fill it through the side pull out port to the left of the door? Just keep on filling till it spills out the sides? The one in the back is just for city or provided pressurized water?

Thanks
