Dump valve-gate attachment to handle rod?

Hi, Gang! Does anyone know how the handle rod on the old flat dump valves attaches to the gate portion of the valve?

Thanks.....

So, I assume that the nut I see in the pics acts as a lock nut(jammed up against the top of the gate) once the handle rod is screwed into a fitting there on top of the gate?

It depends on which end of the rod you're talking about. Most of the ones with a two part rod have a rivet holding the rod to the valve, and the other end of the rod is threaded so the plastic grab handle can screw on it. The lock nut goes on the screw on end between the knob and the rod.

I had to drill a hole in the rod on my new gate valve and used a rivet to attach it. The handle just screwed on. I clamped the rod on a vise and just used a small bit and hand drill.
