Dump valve

anyone ever clean the dump valve on their grey or black water tanks? My slide has a small amount of leakeage, and I expect it will only get worse. I have seen replacements, but wonder if there is a good method to restore the seal of these.
Its the standard pull type blade...

You might try a search in the plumbing section. I know I asked the same question just a few months ago and got a lot of good feedback. In my opinion I would rebuild them. Mine were easy to get off and clean.

Alan,

One side of the valve is bonded to the pipe. My suggestion is to buy a kit with new seals (~$20). The other option is the buy a new valve at $75 and use 3/4 of the parts (keeping the side bonded to the pipe). This is another "Repair that even Fred can do".

I took mine compeletely apart and scrubbed the rubber seals good and put it back together. Works well for now. I will need to go back and put new seals in at some point. There is a gasket between the two halves of the valve that is the most delicate piece.

THANKS, I should have known the answers would be here somewhere already.

I will try the cleaning methods I read about....that is as soon as the freezing rain stops here.

Alan,

My black valve was leaking and I had to fix it as it was becoming a messy issue. The repair kits contain all of the necessary seals and gaskets. I think I paid 18.00 for the kit. The valve is held together with 6-8 screws. You should be able to seperate the halves enough to replace the seals without cutting any pipes.
