I have never been to a federal or state campground where the dumping of washwater on the ground was allowed.

I'm guessing that a lot of the campers are there in tents, as well as trailers?
So, what do folks do about the grey wash water they create? Surreptitiously toss it behind a tree? Wait till nobody is looking and throw it on an empty site?
Hard to believe that they would truck it home for disposal...

Some developmed campgrounds I've been in have specified places where one is supposed to dump one's wash water. I would think the idea is that after doing dishes or whatever, one is supposed to carry the dishpan over to these "'dump sites" and pour the gray water in. I personally have never seen ANYONE do this. Thus, I'd guess that tent campers either pour it on the ground, ... or maybe use it to make coffee?!! Or maybe they sneak over there long after dark to do their pouring?

All of the camps we visit are VERY strict about anything that comes out of a dump hose...but it's ok to wash dishes by the faucet and let the soap soak into the ground

So, I bought what *appeared* to be the same thing but, as Lunatic illuded, it did not fit. It is too small. I did some googling to see what the OD is of a Thetford fitting and the OD of a Valtera but couldn't find any dimensions???? It does look like the Valtera is entirely different though. So, anyone know the OD of the Thetford? Thanks for your help with this matter!

Thinking more about this, seems that I could use two items to simplify my dumping needs:
(1) Universal valve adapter (converting my Thetford to use with Valterra)
Universal Valve Adapter - Item - Camping World
(2) Valterra end cap with a place to connect a standard hose
Termination Cap with Hose Connector - Item - Camping World
Course, the rest of the sewer stuff I received with my A/S probably won't work without me taking these 2 parts off though ... right?

Well you have to change one or the other.... The fitting on the hose is easier than revamping the trailer.... If the adapter works go with that. the two systems are really different and don't come close to working together.....
Don't waste the time... I already did that for everyone.... Even tried cutting bits off the Valtera fitting to try and get it to fit on my Thetford.. no luck...

We have camped several times at FDR State Park in Pine Mountain, GA and they have gray water dump stations every third camp site or so. This consist of a hole filled with gravel with a wire mesh over it. Each time I dumped the 25 gallon tank, the hole filled and the water puddled in a large puddle around the hole. We always tried to get the same pull through site where the trailer is parallel to the road with the back to the road for privacy, so I'd feel kind of funny dumping the gray water right next to the road.
Last week we stayed at a Georgia Power camp ground for a rally and one of the co-ralliers told us we could dump gray water on the ground, so I did. Of course gray water that has been sitting in the tank in 90 degree weather all day doesn't smell so good first thing the nest morning. But I got to thinking, what is the difference between dumping the gray water on the ground at the camp site at FDR and hauling it over to the gray water dump site and dumping it there?
Now I'm thinking we might get a non-pull through next time at FDR and dump the gray water on the ground at the back of the site instead of messing with the blue boy so much...some days I have to dump the gray tank twice depending on how often we wash dishes (it holds 38 gallons and the blue tank only holds 25).
Of course this leads to the question, is it poor manners to dump gray water on the ground behind your trailer and in front of your neighbors camp site?

So far we have had no problem. We camp at Ca. State camp grounds and USFS campgrounds. If there is a question I use the blue boy and dump it at a restroom (I've watched campers dump their dishwater there) or a dump station or I run a garden hose to nearby brush. Some gophers have also 'benefitted' by a shower hose in their homes too. I have camped in various forms since the 50's and have had no problems with dumping gray water.

When you have full hookups are you able to just drain the grey tank continually?

Yes, but don't make the rookie mistake of draining the black water continuously!

You could, but you want some in there to rinse things out after emptying the black tank.

No grey tank
I guess I should clarify, I have no grey tank. It just drains onto the ground but I could hook the garden hose up to the grey water drip ad let that drain. How do I flush the black water tank with grey water if I don't have a grey water tank?

Well, I would guess you wouldn't.
You will have to flush your drain hose another way.
Be aware that most campgrounds don't allow grey water draining onto the ground. Someone here familiar with those older systems will have to advise you on what to do and how.
Good luck!

Older Airstreams without grey tanks have the grey water lines connected just downstream of the black tank dump valve. With full hookups, there's no problem. Grey water drains all the time and black water drains when the valve is open.
With no sewer hookups at a park where grey water dumping is not allowed, it's time for a blue tank. Make sure the dump station is within reach, because you'll have to take the blue tank there every once in a while.
In places where discharge of grey water is allowed, connect a water hose to the cap on the trailer sewer line (get one if you don't have that style of cap) and let the grey water drain in an appropriate location.
I carry a separate water hose with a nozzle so I can clean out the sewer hose after dumping.

I have camped for years and have never stayed at a campground where dumping gray water was allowed. Breeds flies and stench. Would you want your kids to play where the previous camper let his gray water drain? Same thing goes to men who think they have to pee on a tree. What if your kids played there next? Jim
