Quality control oversight QC issue in my trailer.
All,
I have generally been satisfied with my trailer and have looked past many of the small issues that cropped up during its use in the first year. I happily brought it into the dealer for warranty repair work--about $3500 worth of "honey do" items--and picked it up this week.
In preparation for a solar install, today I removed the corner panel in my bathroom, and here's what I found: BLACK TANK VENT PIPE WAS MISSING!
Whoever failed to install this pipe made a mistake. Whoever screwed on the panel participated in a coverup. This is OUTRAGEOUS.
I urge you all the remove this panel (four screws) and make sure you have a vent pipe. I am curious how JC is going to make this right... but sending someone to inspect my trailer and ensure that the OTHER vent pipe is there would be a good START.
Unbelievable. I am off to Home Depot to do what Jackson Center should have done two years ago.

not sure how they go about QC inspection, or lack there of, but maybe they should implement a system similar to the building trades. Where each one of the individual trades work is inspected at various stages of construction. Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, etc.....
Typically an inspection takes place after "rough in", before anything is covered up by the wall finish, and then another at "final inspection". Each trade has a qualified individual inspector, and a final sign off by the building inspector. This particular case would have been caught at the "plumbing rough in" inspection. In any case, THAT ONE is pretty unbelievable IMO. Not too sure how "dangerous" it is, hopefully the smell would drive you out before the gasses built up. Sure makes one question what other major oversights are being covered up and sent on down the line.

You were not suppose to see this!
It’s not good, but with the corner on it kinda sealed it.

Bummer!
In retrospect, do you think the odor you mentioned in an earlier thread could have been caused by the missing vent?

Ours is loose enough that water drains right through..and I think it's making smells come up too.
How do I fix?

Amazing that you did not notice any worse odors with all the traveling you have done! Was that corner board sealed up well? What about evidence of rain water pooling at the bottom of that space?
Thanks for the heads up.

I have been using the black tank flush every time I empty the tank. I assumed it was a fact of life.

I'm giving the plumber 30 seconds to get over here and fix this........what? The plumbers on break? Well the line has to move in two minutes, and I need to do my job and install this corner piece; oh well, I guess the owner and dealer will figure this out; not my problem.
In a sense though.....it was vented to the outside.
At least you are smart enough to have found it.
I think AS should at least give you a jacket or a couple of T-shirts.
Cheers

Sorry to here about this. Oversite and mistakes happen. This is more like the I don’t care /not my problem mentality. I hope Airstream makes this right for you.

There was a saying years ago about how quality control would improve if everyone had to sign their name to their work...

Wow, There are serious health issues if you smell the bad odor for any length of time. I know, my brother had a vent pipe leak for 2 years and got a whiff ever now and then. He now has COPD from smelling those fumes confirmed by his pulmonary Dr. He never smoked a day.

Vent pipe
If u decide to fix it yourself AS uses ABS. Many areas only use PVC. Airstream would probably send you the piece so all you have to do is glue it in. Glad you found it. Good luck.

A quick visit to the big box home improvement store plumbing department would get you a piece of ABS sewer pipe in the appropriate matching diameter. Cut to length (measure twice) with an ordinary saw, and remove the fuzz from the outside and inside of the replacement part.
Add a couple of matching diameter rubber couplings with stainless steel worm screw clamps to install the fix--plus a screwdriver to tighten the clamps.
Advantage is that it's quick, effective, and would help reduce stress on the roof penetration as well...

FYI... I reached out to Airstream this morning and they pretty much immediately called me back. My sense is that this is going to be resolved to my satisfaction, but I will update you all once things are completely resolved.

Any chance it was removed, somewhere along the way? Any other repair work done in that area?
