Lightbulb Combining Black and Grey Tanks

My grey tank is full nad my black tank is about a third full. I need more grey tank space and less black.
This had me wondering. What are the pros and cons of putting a valve down stream of the black and grey valves and upstream of the cap. Opening the Black and grey valve and letting the grey water enter the black tank.
This could be done only when needed or all the time.

What do you think? I remember reading somwhere this was kind of addressed but could not find it....

Michelle,

When we are camping without hookups, we use dishpans in the kitchen sink for washing dishes and then dump the contents in the black tank. This extends the gray tank capacity and also adds volume to the black tank to make dumping more efficient, but then we have only a 10 gallon gray tank and 14 gallon black tank.

Right now I am parked outside our hangar plugged in. My only expense is propane. I use the toilet and sinks but not the shower. I need more liquid in the black tank and less in the grey this is one of the other reasons I want to do this. I could try the dish tub for a while and see how it works. I believe most of the water in the grey tank is coming from washing hands...

Each need is different, but my take is that in a pinch you could purge your grey tank in some cases without issue. Black tank is a whole 'nuther story.

If push came to shove, I might get one of those portible tanks and empty my grey tank that way if I was in a situation where the grey was getting full and I couldn't purge it on the spot. It could also be used to empty the black tank too. I know many folks that had the 28 footer that had the combined tank a few years back....few of them liked it and Airstream eventually switched back to seperate tanks FWIW....
