Black Water Tank Replacement 1970 31' Sovereign

We bought our first vintage airstream this past spriong, and what an adventure. We love it! but, we bought it sight on scene withough giving it a thourough once over. the water system was not properly drained, and had several leaks, as well as a burst water tank to replace. Once it was all back together and having flooded our trailer twice, we discovered the whole bottome of th black water tank was completly rusted away. We need hepl planning how to fix/replace. Anyone know of companies that make replacements? Anyone rebuilt one? we are hoping that the top of the tank is in good condition, ad we ca rebuild the bottom.

Hello sgttibbs,

I only know of black tanks that are plastic. Once these start to crumble you cannot repair them. They have to be replaced.

I'm in the final stages of replacing mine. I ordered mine through Inland RV. Mine had to be custom made, however some models are still available.

Someone on these forums mentioned a tank manufactorer and their price was cheaper than what I paid (about $550). Sorry, I can't recall who it was.

My tank came back to me and about everything about it was wrong. The fittings were in the wrong locations and the size was wrong. Andy took it back and cut the tank to fit and I had to do some fabricating to workaround the misplaced fittings.
