Black Water Tank Flush
Two days ago I picked up my new 2005 25' Safari (twin beds). The trailer has the water spray flush feature for the black hold tank. Its water inlet is mounted mid height on the side of the trailer. My question: must I connect the inlet to a black water hose (as used for cleaning the sewer hose), or may I safely use a white water hose?
Thanks,

The water inlet has a backflow preventer on it so technically you could use a white water hose. In my case I carry a small green utility hose whose only purpose is for this connection. I don't want to take the chance of contaminating my white hose. Especially since you are using that hose in the area of the sewer outlet and drain hose.
I think your Airstream manual may even suggest using an alternate hose.

Ditto what Jack said. Why even do it when a hose costs so little and can be stored in the back bumper for easy access when needed. We use 2 seperate hoses as well. One for fresh water and one for black flush.

I appreciate the info. I have a white water hose and a black water hose. Are you suggesting a third hose? 25' should be sufficient. Thanks,

Same here ... two different hoses ... and I make sure they are stowed separately.
Also, the internal tank rinse/spray ... while good ... does not do a thorough job of cleaning the tank.
Every 2nd or 3rd dump ... I hook up a FlushKing.

Porky, thanks for the link. When I read the info though it sounds like it basically fills the black/gray tank with freshwater which is what the fresh water input hose already does. What does this do different than just hooking up the hose and filling the tanks thru the fill inlet? thanks

You can fill your black and gray tanks directly from your fresh water inlet?
I can only fill my fresh water tank.
Think of the FlushKing as a very forceful enema.

Yep, there's a fresh water inlet for the black water tank, at least on some of the newer models. Just hook up the hose after you drain the black, fill the black with clean water and then drain again. That's why I was wondering about the flush king, sounds like it does the same thing wish is great if you don't already have the flush inlet built in.

OK ... I already knew that ... go back and read my first post in this thread. I call it the "tank rinse/spray" ... you call it the "fresh water input." I misunderstood you to mean the fresh water inlet for the fresh water tank.
After 3 months of ownership using just the "tank rinse/spray" ... I hooked up the FlushKing and gave it a ream out. After 7 tanks worth of enema ... I was finally able to see clear water on the last flush. Obviously, the "tank rinse/spray" just wasn't doing a complete job.
As stated in my first post, the FlushKing does a better job.

2air: does the Flush King come with Thetford fittings?
On their website, they show it hooked up directly to the guillotine valve of a sewage system. On my TT, that's a bit up line, since there is a collecting pipe that connects the output of the black and grey tanks.
Again, on the site there is also no real description of what it does other than saying that it fills up the two waste tanks. Is that it? Fill with clean water and empty them again does the trick?

hi aage
don't think the FK comes with the smaller fitting size, but there are T>V adapters.
the valve/cover is also recessed on my unit so a 3-7 inch extension/adapter tube is used to clear the recess.
yes this is basically a 2nd guillotine valve with a water hose connect UP stream from the 2nd valve.
as porky describes it's like a GIANT enema.
the reason i like it (as do others) is that the back fill is QUIK.
depending on water pressure as little as 2-3 minutes to FILL a 35 gallon tank.
so the back fill/flush can be done in 1/10th the time it takes to fill ONCE using the SS or the BTF.
2-3 fill/flushes usually takes 10 minutes.
if the tank contents are not 'liquified' yet this really does flush stuff out.
using a clear extension tube means SEEing when elvis has left the builiding...
5+ years regular usage and the king is still flushin'
after following the link in porky's post, read about the adapters and other bits here...

cheers

Thanks, 2air!
