Angry Black water rinse clogged!

We just used our trailer last weekend and I have not had a chance to dump the tanks until tonight. I tried to use the rinse feature put no water will flow through. Usualy you can hear it from 20 feet away. Has anyone had their rinse thing clog up?

There's a sticker below my black water rinse inlet states that it should not be used unless the waste gate is open. You might find it will work if you were at a dump station with a stinky slinky in place and the handle pulled.

I think the sticker is there only as a warning so that you don't inadvertently overfill your black tank which is possible if the waste gate is closed and you aren't paying attention.

I use my rinse all the time with the gate closed when I'm cleaning my tank. First I dump. Then I run the rinse a minute with the gate still open. Then I close the gate and count slowly to 20 to let the tank fill up partially to help catch and dislodge anything left behind. I repeat this partial-fill and dump procedure two or three times before I close the valve for the last time, partially fill again to leave some liquid to slosh around, and then dump the gray.

To answer Resorts question, mine has never clogged up. And you are correct that it is quite noisy and can be heard from twenty feet away!

Ive pulled the inlet nozzle but it looks like the back flow valve or whatever it is is way back at the tank. I have left water pressure on it for a while and still nothing. I looked in the tank through the toilet with an inspection mirror and cant see anything.

similar problem

Same thing has happened with my 92 22ft sovereign. There is a 1 way valve that I found on the inside behind the sink and I surmise it is defective. If I ever get around to it I will take out the sink and replace that valve. In the meantime we rinse by adding water to the toilet.

this morning when I tried to flush my black water tank I could not get fresh water to flow into the tank. I suspect the check valve is the problem as I follow this fresh water flush procedure on a regular basis and until today it has worked fine. Have you been able to solve this problem?

Welcome to the forum.

The black water tank flush anti-siphon vacuum-breaker valves are buried all over in different models. You mnight want to ask in the forum for your specific model via this sub-forum:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f516/

This specific thread looks like it might be helpful IMO:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f51...ns-152307.html

The following search results will give a decent survey of the general scope of this problem area:

https://www.google.com/search?q=blac...=airforums.com

If your black water tank flush system has not been used actively and consistently, the tiny orifices -- in the spray heads at the top of the black tank -- may have clogged up with dried fecal material, and may be inoperable. The only fix is to replace the individual spray heads . . . an onerous task usually . . . IMO.

Good luck.

I’ll take a guess. Open the cabinet doors under the lav sink. The back flow preventer is at the top of two PEX pipes maybe 16-18” above floor level. It has a round cap.

Also see if the flush line connection has a strainer screen in the fitting. Might be clogged with hose crud.

My black tank flush will not work unless the city water has enough pressure. Not sure what the magic number is but I've been to a few places where I could not use the flush because of low pressure. - brad

Black tank flush

Is that what this inlet is for on the photo on the left? My city water inlet is up higher on the back of the trailer (see right photo).

Thanks!

That would be my guess. Do you know for sure that the higher hose fitting works as the city water intake? In your small 20' is the black water waste tank right there at the stern, with the discharge valve coming out of it? Makes sense that the flush system would hook up there, but it seems somewhat surprising that a 1976 has this system IMO.

Your owner's manual should identify these two locations IMO . . . do you have one? If not there is probably a manual available online. Please advise.

Suggest looking in the Argosy trailer forums for more info:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f227/

These search results may lead to fertile ground:

https://www.google.com/search?q=1976...=airforums.com

idroba seems to have had a black tank flush in his 1974 Argosy 20' here IMO:

RIP idroba . . . a trusted source of much information: https://www.airforums.com/forums/f16...ba-150067.html

Good luck,

You are such a wealth of information and I'm always impressed with how you're able to find these relevant threads to reference! I will be on full hook ups this weekend and might give it a try. I'll report back

That lower inlet is the "Original" city water inlet. I suspect that somebody has installed the higher inlet. The original went to a pressure regulator. Check to be sure the higher inlet goes to a regulator. If no regulator in the trailer, I highly reccomend purchasing an inline one before hooking up to city water. It is NOT a black tank flush!!

Thanks . . . thought it looked familiar from our 1985 25' Sovereign. FWIW a 1976 Argosy overview -- no reference to black tank flush:

https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...ations-282.pdf

Nor in AS standard specs here: https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...ations-277.pdf

Unless you can find another hose inlet, Silver Surfer, you may not have a black tank flush system IMO.

Good luck.

Thanks . . . sounds good . . . please read Post #15 about using a pressure regulator. May from inside, under a cabinet perhaps, you can see the pressure regulator part of what may be a new city water intake?

Happy trails,
