Black water dump valve push pull rod missing

Hello, I have just purchased a 79 Excella 500 center bath. When the gray water tank had some water run into it which will not close all the way, I noticed water dripping out of the hole where the rod is supposed to go that leads to the dump valve under the belly. Does this rod screw in or is it replacement valve time? Please Advise!
