Black Tank Cleanout

A quick history. I bought my Sovereign in 2004 and have been working on it off and on for 5 years. I'm nearly done with all my work and will be using it for the first time on a campout in two weeks. Anyhow, the PO didn't use the black tank properly and it appears she left the valve open all of the time leaving a nice caked on "residue" on the bottom the tank. Any ideas how I can clean this out? Is there some kind of treatment I can use to liquify this residue?

Mike,

Fill the tank 1/2 full of hot water, drive around for a while, drain and repeat.

I have a gizmo I got from CW that is a 2' piece of PVC and a valve. The end sprays out a stream in a horizontal direction to get the stuff out of the corners etc. Cheap and works good.

If you are replacing the dump valve anyway, just reach right up there and pull out the coprolites with your hand while you pretend you are a paleontologist.

Place a bag of ice and some salt, in to the black tank then drive around . that is how we clean out the coffee pot except we just shake the coffee pot not drive it around

Black Water Tank

Airdaddy Here. From the sounds of things you have spent a lot of money and time to do things right and to fit your personality. I am in the process of doing the samething to my 1975 AS. If I had spent 5 years updating or renewing, I would not do anything other then replace. Then you will have the knowledge and experience on removing and replace the tank. Go all the way and replace. You will glad you did..
