Attaching new flanges to gray and black tanks?

One of my tank flanges (96 excella) cracked and I am in the process of replacing them on both tanks. The flanges are clamped on with a bayonet clamp. Originally if looks like AS also used Vulkem as a double safeguard. With the Vulkem on there, they were a "bear" to get off. Do you think Vulkem is really needed? I would like for the plumbing to be a little more user friendly, but don't want it leaking either. Is tempro any more or less user friendly.

thanks, Richard

Our 98 Excella also had the white plastic flanges that cracked and started leaking. They where not sealed with Vulkem, but I did use some on the seal, as I couldn't find a replacement, and had to reuse it. The ABS replacement flanges from Out of Doors Mart should not have the same problem as the white plastic flanges from Airstream.

I think the bayonet clamp is all you need as the ABS tank is soft enough will compress against the new flange.
