Water taste question

Does anyone know how to get the plastic water hose taste out of the water? Is there anything I can do to treat my water hose to remove that awful taste?

1. Use a hose made for domestic water supply - usually white. Or,
2. Use a charcoal filter to remove the taste. R/O systems use charcoal.

Yes, use a white hose, even when filling your water tank. If the taste is from the tank water sanitize the tank with a little bleach, drain then a little baking soda and drain. It probably a good idea to sanitize anyway if you have not.

I have the white potable water hose. It just tastes horrible.
This water is from the city water system. We used a Britta water filter pitcher inside, but still had the same foul tasting plastic water.

From whom did you purchase the white hose?
Have you purged your fresh water tank?

Sounds like the case of the missing in-line water filter to me.

Definitely use one and change it out at least once a year.

Try putting a gallon of white vinigar in the water tank and then fill the tank . Run this through all the faucets and shower , both hot and cold , using the water pump . Let it sit for several hours or overnight . Empty the tank and refill with good water using a white hose . This is also good for getting rid of the chlorine taste after sanitizing .

I'm not currently using my fresh water tank as my water pump needs replacing. The water tastes fine before it goe throught the hose (purchased at Wal-Mart) I think it is just because it is a new hose--much like the taste you get with new PVC piping in a new house. Where should I find the in-line filter? I do not even know where to look. Would it be worthwhile to buy one of thoes hose filters that attach between the water hose and the couach water inlet?

I bought my white hose at WalMart and we aren't having any disagreeable tastes. Of course except for brushing my teeth I don't drink the tank water. Full hook-ups haven't been our problem either. I would say your 'taste' problem is something in your plumbing. When you get the pump repaired flush your system as has been discribed. We take bottled water for drinking but cook with the tap water.

Have you tried freezing the water into little cubes and surrounding them with Jim Beam?

Purge the hose well before hooking it to your trailer. If it has standing water in it from the last time then it will have time for the plastic taste to leach into the water in the hose, especially if it's out in the sun. WalMart sells inline RV filters with a charcoal prefilter for taste. About $18, it will last a season with no problem. I will toss mine instead of storing it.

If you don't find the filter at your local WalMart try

Shop Camping World for RV Accessories, RV Parts, & other items for Outdoor Enthusiasts.

You'll want to remember to flush the new filter of any loose charcoal filtering elements prior to first use. Just push some water through until no black comes out then hook it up and use it.

A standard particle filter won't change the taste, you must use a charcoal filter as described above or similar.

Hey Steve-

Again you got the wrong hose. Use the red one that you used to mix the cement for the patio! All that lyme overpowers the rubber taste!

But on the serious side, as everyone mentioned above, white fresh water hose is the way to go!

To make it easy from campground to campground I just use the water sprayer used to clean the hoses out at the dump station. I just full my tank up and roll out.

I never get sick!
