There are also a couple of valves in the back that need to be opened, and at least 2 more under the sink. Maybe someone has access to a manual and can post the full sequence. Do you have an owner's manual? If not you can buy reprints from Airstream these are a nice quality reprint of the orginal owners and service manuals. Well worth the money on the 70's vintage units.

Popeyedoyle,
I don't know if you have a rear bath or center bath...I have attached 2 scans, one for the water systems and one with the winterizing procedures which includes how to drain the entire system. These are from the 1975 and 1976 Owners and Service Manual, so they may not be totally correct for a 1978. You can buy reprints of the manuals from the Airstream Store (bottom of the page) well worth the investment IMHO

Mine did not originally have a drain valve either. Owners manual said to use the pump to drain it. To me it seemed to be a bad idea to use the pump to empty a 50 gal tank.If you take off the 8x8 steel plate under the trailer you should find a 3/8 or 1/2 inch rubber hose . This is the feed from tank to pump. If there is no valve there , cut the rubber hose and put a drain valve in with hose clamps , end of problem. Good luck

If you have a rear bath model like ours, theres a drain plug on the streetside between the axles. Should be plastic, 3/4" head insert to remove, and is within the inside of the water tank belly pan. Jeff
