Water runs out from small inspection plate in under belly pan

1994 34' classic limited

When city water is hooked up I have water running out of inspection plate between curb side wheels. how do I find that line I took out the shore water manifold box to see all was dry there. do I have to take the whole under belly pan down to find it. help I like city water instead of running the fresh water pump.

thanks gary

Check under sink to see if you have a leak there. Do you have any leaks when using fresh water pump, or only with city water? If no leak with pump, and you have an air compressor, lower pressure to less than 50 lbs, and have someone pressurize with air through the water inlet while you listen and find the leak. You will hear the airblowing out. Once you determine the leak location, the repairs can start. Chris

I can't look at my unit as it is in storage 150 miles away, but maybe one of the other members here has a plumbing schematic to see where the city water connects to the water lines, and where check valves are. I have used the "air method" before to find leaks. How long have you owned the unit, and was it winterized? Chris

fresh water leak

it was winterized and had it for 2 years. I went to FL for vacation and that is the first time I used city water. my AS manual doesn't show the shore water installation I hope I don't have to drop the belly pan maybe there is a cut out under the bed.

thanks for your help

We took care of a similar leak last month. There is a wet wall between the shower and the kitchen area that is about 4" wide. Airstream in its infinite wisdom ran three lines that connect to the kitchen sink and pump in the closet. They decided to put 90 degree elbows in three places on each line (total of nine) where you cant see or get to them. For us the leak was at an elbow and ran down the line on top of the fresh water tank, then into the pan covering the tank. We saw the same symptoms you did when connected to city water and when using the pump. We cut a section of the wet wall out inside the cabinet just inside the kitchen (the lowest drawer/hatch close to the floor) to access the elbows. We replaced all of them with new lines and it only took one 90 degree elbow on each line to run them through the floor. Check that lower cabinet for signs of moisture.

The leak is inside, would not be on the bottom below the floor. Using an air compressor would be a good choice as you will hear the leak without soaking the floor. Hopefully its not in a real inconvenient spot.

With all due respect that is not so. The lines run inside the trailer to that wet wall, then through a hole in the floor, across the top of the FW tank and then up below the kitchen sink.

So you are saying Airstream ran water lines in an unconditioned space so that they would be the first things to freeze? That doesnt make too much sense.

In my 30' (which is a different trailer, so this may not apply), that's where two of the drain valves for the system are. Mine are accessible from outside the trailer, but the owner's manual says the valves are on the inside of the trailer, accessible from the water pump pit. If you're really lucky, maybe one of those isn't tightly closed.

I don't understand why something would only leak on city water and not the pump, though - everything after the pump uses the exact same lines. Unless it's a pressure thing, that is, the city water has a higher pressure and that triggers the leak.

No one said it made any sense, but that is EXACTLY what Airstream did in my trailer. It didn't make any sense to put 3 elbows in each line either, but they did that too. I am just trying to help the OP here not embellish a story to make myself look good.
