water pump running on

http://www.shutterfly.com/lightbox/v...2f2841c4d4a52eI pumped RV antifreeze into the water system last fall and recently I was trying to flush it out. The pump is constantly running. Attached is a photo of some type of copper tube with a spring in it. Any suggestions?

Pump still running on? Sounds like there is some air in system. I let the water run both on pump and water supply. Any other way to purge air from system? I am assuming it is air which is causing to run pump after faucet is shut. Any help would be appreciated.

Water heater takes lots of water, open hot water faucet see if helps, if no leaks maybe pressure swt. bad or if original pump time to replace with newer style.

Thanks. I am going to use the hot water to do some spring cleaning. I will see if letting it run does the trick.

Water still is coming out in spurts and pump running on. Before I buy a new pump, could this be my problem? I disconnected intake at this point last fall.I don't know what that spring is and if I reassembled correctly?

water pump running on

I t sounds like you are drawing air from the back side of the pump. (Somewhere between the pump and the tank)

I don't think the spring has anything to do with your issue.

Could one of the fittings be loose ?

For a test for troubleshooting you could disconnect the hose at the copper fitting and put the pump side in a pan of water to see if the pump will pump cleanly from the pan.

I am assuming that that hose is the pump intake. If it is not, change my instructions to the intake hose.

The spring should fit into rubber hose as it will stop from kinking. The spring is not the prob. maybe joint loose when reconnected, as this sounds like pump sucking air then not enough pressure to turn pump off when faucets closed. If pressure swt. bad better off to buy new pump they are not expensive

Thanks,
I tried disconnecting intake hose and placing it in tray of water. It worked! but for only awhile. I'm thinking it maybe a kink in hose where spring should go, like you mentioned.

I had a '71 which would not pull water. Turned out that the rubber intake line was pours and when suction was applied to it by the pump, it pulled air in. However it did not leak out. So, a replacement hose did the trick to solve the pump suction issue on that rig.

pump problem solved

Thanks everyone, it turns out having a full water tank and trailer level helps.
