When I redid my Trade Wind with pex, I did not replace the inside regulator (I did not have one). I use the external type that has a pressure gauge on it and have never had any trouble. I would think one or the other but not both. I thought about putting one inside but figured that it might be a source of trouble later on where if the external one has an issue it is a quick trip to Wally World to get another one. I used crimp rings on the pex and some places were hard to get to. Sharkbites are nice but very expensive if you use them on all the connections. I did use some in a couple of places where it was impossible to crimp and have had no issues in 3 years.
