That means your water pump has a check valve issue. Run the pump open a faucet for a minute, and shut it off several times. Wait for the pump to stop, and do this again a few times.

That might clear the internal debris that’s keeping the check valve from seating.

Search the forums for more on the subject.

Welcome to the forum!

To add detail to Rich's advice, here are some search results to check out:

https://www.google.com/search?q=pump...com&gws_rd=ssl

What happens is that, as the city water fills and pressurizes all your hot and cold water lines, this pressurized water is leaking "backwards" through the pump's check valve, going into your water tank, and then out the over-flow tube.

Hopefully the check valve will re-seat itself as Rich suggested. When you run the pump, using your full water tank, you may have to open every faucet [both H/C] to get air out of the system, and to enable the pump to be primed correctly.

Your owner's manual should help you find the pump, and its pre-filter for the water coming from the water tank. Be sure to remove and clean out this filter.

When using city water, and filling your water tank, you should always use a filter like this one at the hose bib:

https://www.amazon.com/Camco-TastePU...gateway&sr=8-3

Grit in the water can get stuck in the pump's check valve, as well as in all your faucets and aerator filters at the faucet spigots -- NG.

Good luck,

Peter

Yes, you can use only city water, but see my earlier post to make sure you have all your bases covered. There will be water in the tank, which you have to make sure stays clean and sanitary, but that is another topic.

Also it will help everyone if you can Edit your posts to clean up the spelling a little IMO [see Post #4 ]

It might be easier if you stick to this thread IMO.

Cheers,

I take the pump apart every year to clean it out. Despite great effort to pre filter all incoming water, something always finds its way to the pump causing a backflow and a leak back into the tank. I've never had to replace the bump due to this issue. Good luck!

water leak

to Peter
I thought your explanation of the check valve was very good. After owning my Safari for 21 years, I thought in ew most everything about it. I now know that I don't. When II winterize my trailer this year, I will be looking for that check valve.
Thanks for the info

As rmkrum mentioned above the check value in the pump is not working.

$100 bucks replace the pump.

Clean the old one out and keep it as a spare.

I have a spare pump on board and I have had to do a field swap in the past. The surflow pumps aren’t what they used to be......

It looks to me like you are filling the fresh water tank. The city water fill should be on the side near your electric.

No, they are hooked up to city water but the fresh tank is being filled because the check valve in the pump is stuck open and allowing water to backfill through the pump in to the tank. Read through this thread for more info, it's a good thing to understand, as it might well happen for you down the road.

On my Overlander there is a valve to close off manually that will prevent water from backing up to the fresh water Tank? Are the new ones not like that? Its simple to close it off?

Not on later models. The backflow prevention is via a check valve built in to the water pump. That valve gets clogged and stuck open.

Reading about this problem over and over again. I think I am going to add a shutoff valve in front of or behind my pump though. One more thing to remember to open or close depending on if I'm on City or Fresh Tank, but a worthwhile modification now that I think about it. I like options.

Wow...I guess they did that to make the process more "automatic"......interesting....I can see several disadvantages to not having a shutoff for the freshwater tank, but only one advantage to not having it, which is the automatic switchover....aside from the fact that if you do not have another valve up there, then it cannot leak ! ......

That is your fresh water tank overflow opening. If you are connected to city water and you are getting water out of that opening, there is a good probability that the check valve at your pump is not working and you are back-filing your fresh water tank. R

His check valve has failed, the fresh water tank is full, and with city water hooked up water is coming out the fresh water inlet and air vent since water is still going in the fresh water tank because of the failed check valve.

So the OP can't use "only city water" until he fixes the check valve problem. A 2018 should still be under warranty so I'd take it to the nearest dealer and get the water pump replaced rather than take the pump apart to clean it, etc. and probably void your warranty.

I'm on my third water pump in a 2019 because of faulty check valves. I wonder if Shurflo now makes their stuff in China like everything else. Damn shame. Their products used to be pretty good.

Yes, Steve, that is why I also said in Post #6:

You dropped the bold text above when you just quoted me.

That "earlier post" [#3] assumed that he would be able to re-seat his check valve per the advice of rmkrum.
