water inlet cover won't budge

I have a '66 Safari, and I can't get the inlet valve cover to budge. It looks like it might have had a handle on it at one time, but there's nothing there now. It is either wedged/gummed shut, or there's another way to get it open that I just don't know about. Help? I know I have to replace the fresh water tank, but that's another story. Is there a different hose hook-up for city versus tank fill? (I guess you can tell I'm new at this)

First, welcome to the forums!
Not sure about your year, most trailers have a city water hookup at, or near the rear bumper on the left side.
My '72 Globetrotter had a locking door that just swings down to gain access for filling the tank. (I sold it)
Hopefully tomorrow you'll get some input when they all wake up...

I think the '66 had a tank mounted in the front of the trailer, on the floor, side to side.
Is there a way to get at the inside of the door? Maybe from inside the trailer? A does of WD40 or similar on the hinge, and a judicious push from within may get things moving.

Hi Angier......I also have a 66 Safari and love her!!

The city water hook up is inside the rear access door. I re-plumbed mine so that it hooks up on the back side of the trailer and I don't have to feed the hose into the rear compartment. Before that, I fed the hose up through a pipe that comes out the left rear bottom of the trailer (where the power cord drops out). Look there and let me know if you don't locate it.

Your water tank is under the dining table and runs side to side at the front of the coach. There, generally, is a wooden cover built over it and the pump should be on the left side under the seat towards the front of the trailer.

I am not sure how to tell you to open the cap from the outside. Mine opened without any problems. Be careful with it though...you don't want to damage it. If I remember correctly, Inland RV may have replacement caps if you do end up damaging it.

A photo would help.
If this is the plastic Thetford type for filling the fresh water tank and it has not been used for a while it could be stuck. I would try gentle side to side prying/ wiggling to pop it loose. If it is the one I am thinking of, new are available and cheap.
