Valve under kitchen sink leaks

After turning on the pump for the first time this year in my ‘05, I heard a spraying sound coming from underneath the sink. The plastic ring joining the PVC to the copper for the hot water was cracked and leaking.

Tightening it by hand fixed it temporarily, but I’ve had to repeat this a couple times since. This seems like a repair I could tackle myself, if someone here can point me in the right direction.

Thanks!!!

Might be a good idea to replace the complete plastic line and couplings rather than try to fix a broken part.

You will need to cut the red Pex line and replace the connector. There are several options to do this.

1. You can cut the line and replace the fitting with one with a barb fitting that can be crimped onto the red PEX pipe. There are several tool options for this, including one that uses pliers for the crimp action (less expensive) or a dedicated crimper tool ($50 and up).

2. You can cut the line and use a Sharkbite connector that simply pushes on to the PEX pipe.

Cut the fitting off and take it to a big box store or plumbing supplier and get them to tell you what you need or hire a plumber to come fix it for you.

Whatever you do, you might as well do both lines as the incremental cost of doing both is small.

Thank you both for the replies, which I’m still digesting. Any tricks for better access?

Maybe I need to cut a notch in the board behind the drawers?

Go to Home Depot and get “shark bite” fittings to replace broken piece. Cut off the old one as a sample. New fittings just press on. Works like magic! I have had shark bites in our Airstream for 20k plus miles without problems.
