Slow Draining '71 Fresh Water

Hi all,

I have a super slow draining fresh water tank. Is this common, or do I need to pull the valve out and look it over?

Thank!

Mine has been that way since I drove it off the lot. Took a clear hose, connected it to the drain valve and blew air into the tank and it did drain faster. Seems to be some foreign matter in the tank that clogs the drainage.

Is it vented? The fresh tank on my TW drains very slowly unless I take the filler cap off.

My '72 TW does drain a lot slower than the '67 GT I previously owned.
When I rebuilt the plumbing on the TW with a new pipes and valve it did not seem to have any effect.
I suspect it's due to how flat the tank is. Low "Water Column" provides low pressure. The GT tank is a lot taller.

Bruce. My GT had a relief cut thru the threads on the filler cap. Check to make sure it hasn't corroded closed.

Thanks, for the tip. I'll check it. I recently added a vent tube to my tank and it fixed the slow drain problem. My tank is aftermaket and it had a place for an extra fitting. When I plumbed it I set it up so I can fill it when attached to city water. I would have to open the filler or the tank would pressurize, the vent tube fixed that. Also, I put a little silicone plumbers grease on the threads to prevent it from seizing (again) so the relief cut may well be clogged.

When I fill my freshwater tank I open the drain to clean it out. The pressure will force out algae and whatever. When the tank is about full I close the valve.
