Shur Flo Water Pump- SILENT?

I have owned two Airstreams. A 2006 Safari and a 2014 International.

When I was Boondocking, the previous water pump systems worked very well on 12 volts and reliable. On... Off. Off... On. Water pressure.

When checking off everything on our list for the new 2019 International Serenity, I flipped the Water Pump switch to ON. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I could hear a fly in the trailer and that would had been deafening compared to flipping the water pump to ON. Even a mosquito would be overpowering at three or four feet.

Imagine my surprise, Airstream DID improve a component that was absolutely... fantastic.

Whatever the brand of the previous water pumps used on my 'antique water pump' models, I knew when they were running. Each sounded like a snow plow running through a campground at midnight, in the Mohave Desert in July.

The Shur-Flo Water Pump is so quiet, I did not even know it was running. Water pressure was as good, if not better than the irritating coffee grinder sound of the previous brand.

I stand before you grinning... with water pressure, hot and cold... and hear nothing. Those of you with the 'old water pump'... just forget you read this.

For Santa's List coming, tomorrow or whenever... put ShurFlo on your Xmas List. Even if you have to forgo an upgrade to your briefs... that can wait.

Ray the older pumps were pressure activated...on/off--either full speed or zero. The new ones are variable pressure, so their speed determined by amount of water demanded. You've almost got me talked in to buying one to end the racket. p.s. you need to add the new addition to your sidebar info!

To be sure, the Shurflow 4008 Revolution pump is very quiet.

It's nice to see you back in the Airstream space Ray.

*******

Only a few of us understand when the older pumps... 'burp' at irregular times of the day or night. What the water pump is telling you. But... "I ain't talking". I have said enough, already.

ShurFlo also sells the cold water filtering system I am going to install, after getting the bad news from Jackson Center, Ohio. Our Airstream STICKER that lists all of the standard items within our 2019 27FB Signature INCLUDES 'Grohe Faucet w/Pull Out/ FILTERED COLD WATER. (I emphasized the important parts.)

We have the Grohe Faucet and Pull Out. Nancy and I looked for the Filtered Cold Water system. Not where it was mounted in our 2014 International. Where or where is our Filtered Cold Water System?

Well... they quit installing them on the 2017 models. Yet... they STILL are included as Standard Equipment on our MSRP as "Standard at NO Extra Charge unless Replaced by Optional Equipment".

Nancy called Jackson Center to find out where is this System located. She was put on hold... a few minutes later "They no longer install them after the 2017 models".

So... be aware that even though the MSRP may list something in ENGLISH, in print... it may not be included and no doubt the price also did not include the extra cost of labor and parts.....

How difficult would it be to convert to the new water pump on older AS model(2016)?

Hi Ray,

Which model pump is installed in your new trailer? Is it installed in a way where you can see the label?

Thanks,

Steve

Now I have to check the pump on our 2019 FC 25' to see if it's a Shur-Flo or not. Guessing it's not 'cause the pump is noisy, cycles between fully on or fully off when faucet is opened slightly for low flow, AND our unit is an FC rather than Int. Seren.
...oh well, just another "upgrade" to put on the list...

Spineonedad: Depending upon the pump location it is usually a relatively easy task to upgrade. If you stay with the same brand you likely can use the same fittings.

Does the new water system include an accumulator tank? I installed one on my water system and really silenced the system

Airstream installs the Shurflo 4008 Revolution pump in new trailers. The manufacturer states no accumulator tank is needed due to its by-pass design. The OEM model number is 4008-101-A65 but if you buy one at retail it's 4008-101-E65.

In fact it was posted on another thread that someone installed an accumulator tank in conjunction with one of these pumps and they didn't have enough water pressure and needed to remove the accumulator.

I'm curious, I have a 2019 serenity and the pump is god awful loud, and "jitters" unless i have the water wide open.......not exactly good for boondocking......

Did they switch pumps at some point in 2019?

In my experience noise is usually caused by pipe vibration. On my 25FB the rattling in my shower was sometimes very loud. I ended up fastening an eye hook to the floor and putting some tension on the pipe by looping it with a zip tie.

The oscillation you refer to can be fixed by adjusting the pump shut-off pressure. There is a tiny hex screw (5/16" as I recall) on the pump switch, just to the left of the power connection. (The switch itself is about halfway between the input and output water connections.) Give that hex screw a small clockwise adjustment to raise the shut-off pressure.

The Shur Flo water pump is SILENT... not just less noisy than a coffee grinder... model of water pump. When I return home I will try to get more information off the pump.

It is the brand change.

2019 International serial number 54928_. Last number is between 0 and 9. This number may indicate when the change was made.

Both the 2006 and the 2014 had the Coffee Grinder pump. That is why I thought there was a malfunctioning water pump when I was getting water pressure... but only a faint sound. The difference is dramatic, not slightly less noisy.

You also need to make sure all the air is out of all the lines. That can add noise. Ask how I know [emoji6]

My 2018 International is not completely silent. It sort of... purrs... quietly. I will be interested to hear your findings.
